A Palmtop For The Prosecution

from the criminals-and-their-gadgets dept

According to the NY Times, it's now becoming more important for police to have forensics experts who are experienced in reading data off a criminal's PDA device. It seems that PDAs are finding their way into the hands of plenty of criminals who use them to organize their crimes. In some cases, police say that the devices are like a digital alter ego of the person - but much more willing to spill the person's secrets. Since the devices seem much more personal to the user, they rarely do anything to hide or encrypt the data they put in them. In fact, they often store the passwords for everything else they do on a computer in their handheld devices. I guess, the moral of the story is, if you're about to commit a crime, you probably shouldn't schedule it on your Palm calendar.
