Users Don't Want Passport Or Liberty

from the you-want-me-to-sign-up-for-what-now? dept

A panel discussion on identity management systems, like Passport and the Liberty Alliance, has shown that most people don't want an identity management system. There simply is no consumer demand for such a thing - and, if anything, they're more nervous about it. The demand is coming from the corporate side, which sees how it can be useful in handling business-to-business transactions. However, consumers, for the most part, plan to stay away. This makes sense. These days, I'm not sure why anyone would trust a computer to handle their identity management when all we hear about every day is security weaknesses and stolen credit cards.
