The Webcasting Deal That Might Never Be

from the is-it-there-or-not? dept

Last week we posted a story saying that webcasters and the music industry were close on a deal to revise webcasting fees, so that small webcasters could stay in business. Today, the Associated Press is reporting that a deal has been completed. However, Reuters is coming back and saying that the deal that was made is already being threatened by musicians who haven't been told how those royalties will ever get passed on to them. They (perhaps rightfully so) are assuming that the music industry is going to keep most of the money themselves, and may block the deal because of that.
