This Year's Ig Nobels
from the can't-miss-'em dept
New Scientist has an article about this year's Ig Nobel prizes (if you have somehow missed every other year this has been going on, the Ig Nobels are prizes for research that "cannot or should not be reproduced"). The dog bark translator we're so fond of, won one of the awards. As did research on the "scrotal asymmetry in men and sculpture" and research that discovered certain ostriches wouldn't breed with each other because they were more interested in the human farm workers taking care of them (report titled Courtship behavior of ostriches toward humans under farming conditions in Britain). The physics prize went to a German who determined that the head on beer follows an exponential decay law. Useful stuff.
