What Does The Internet Look Like

from the scale-free dept

It seems that the usual way of demonstrating what the internet looks like may not be very accurate. New studies show that the internt is really "scale free", where certain nodes are much more important than others - and continue to increase in importance. In other words, a router that has many links to it is much more likely to attract new links than one that is not already popular. Understanding this, researchers say, can be useful in stopping problems like viruses. Instead of having to protect every machine, you can stamp them out at these preferentially attached areas.
