EU Plans May Boost Web Music

from the what-a-concept dept

Amazingly enough, the European Union may have hit upon a solution that could make it easier to broadcast music online by letting companies compete to offer licenses for webcast music. Basically, right now, each European country has their own organization in charge of licensing music. Under the new plan, each would be allowed to offer music across all of Europe, meaning they would have to compete on price - letting webcasters pick those with the lowest price. It certainly beats the system being worked on in the US, where the RIAA pushes for as much money as possible and then whines the amount the government announces is not enough, even though it's putting most webcasters out of business.
