Mr. Hollywood Lives In Washington
from the shooting-yourself-in-the-foot dept
Here's a column from Lauren Weinstein, the founder of People For Internet Responsibility, talking about how Hollywood has Congress in their pocket, despite the fact that most of the moves Hollywood is trying to make not only are bad for consumers, but are probably bad for Hollywood as well. Most of the article talks about the "broadcast flag" legislation that's coming, and explains how it's a lose-lose situation. It's certainly would be a pain for consumers who would have to upgrade all of their TVs and VCRs and such - but also would do very little to stop piracy. So, basically, it would be a huge pain, causing great expense, with no benefit for the industry. And Congress is going to go right ahead pushing it, because Hollywood tells them to.
