Online Learning Not Just For Distance Learning

from the just-a-reminder dept

Often when people talk about putting coursework materials online, the conversation drifts towards discussions about "distance learning". However, as this article points out, course information online is probably being used more often to help supplement in-class learning. It lets students have more access to data, and the tools to manipulate the data, than ever before. It's also not specifically useful for just one subject area either. Almost anyone can enhance the value of a regular class with some supplemental information online. The only issue is how much the technology becomes a crutch, or an issue in itself. Sometimes people start to use the technology just because they can - and not because it actually helps the students learn.
