Coke, Soda, Or Pop: The Answer Is Online
from the see-what-the-web-can-do? dept
I grew up in New York, so I remember being pretty surprised the first time (probably in college) when I heard someone refer to "soda" as "pop". Oddly, it did set off some "man, that's weird" bells in my head. I've since had the discussion numerous times with folks discussing which descriptor they use for the bubbly sugary drinks that I was once (but, thankfully, no longer) addicted to. It seems I'm not the only one who has discussed this. What does this have to do with technology? Well, leave it to the web to run an online survey to find out what people call their colas, depending on where they're from. The results are pretty much what you would assume. Folks in the northeast call it soda. The midwest goes with pop. In the south, it's just Coke (no matter what the brand name).
