All That's Left For Web Radio: Talk Radio

from the no-music-here dept

Thanks to the ridiculous CARP fees, it appears that most music webcasting radio stations will shut down according to a new study from Jupiter Research. This, of course, should surprise no one. The radio stations themselves have said it, and the music industry has made it pretty clear that their goal is nothing less than to shut down most of these radio stations (because, after all, they might broadcast music that people actually like rather than the few megapop acts the music industry wants to force down everyone's throats). So, congratulations: the music industry has successfully killed off yet another promotional channel for their artists.

I dunno, I'm enjoying the non-mainstream stations that I hook up Winamp to. Never heard of some of the artists, but there are some great tunes -- and they aren't controlled by "The Industry".
I say, let them keep Britknee Phears off the net :)
