Machinima Going Mainstream?

It seems that more people are becoming aware of machinima (using video gaming engines to create 3D computer animated movies). Even the Associated Press (via Yahoo) is talking about how machinima is a growing trend. Now, how long until the Oscars add a Machinima category? The cool thing about machinima, of course, is that it's relatively cheap to do, so that just about anyone can create a pretty cool movie, with enough time and skill.
