The Early Days Of eBay
from the the-accidental-successful-dot-com dept
There have been a number of stories (not all true) about how eBay was founded, but here's an article summazing the story behind the story of how eBay began from the book The Perfect Store: Inside eBay. Basically, it was an accidental startup. Pierre Omidyar started it as a free service by himself, and only started charging to cover his hosting fees... but then had to hire someone to handle all the checks that started coming in. Basically, he made a lot of early decisions just to make things easier on himself, but those concepts became the cornerstone to such a successful business.
