Ricochet Still Planning To Come Back

from the I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it dept

Earlier this year, we posted a story saying that the new Ricochet was getting ready to launch - first in southern California, followed by northern California "during the summer". Well, it's now the summer, and my two ricochet modems are still paperweights. Today, though, Ricochet claimed that they'll soon launch in Denver, followed by San Diego, and possibly New York. They don't say whether or not old ricochet modems will work on the network. They did outline the pricing, which is much more sensible (and the strategy that Metricom should have followed from the very beginning). However, I think the Ricochet technology may have missed the boat. With the increasing coverage of WiFi, Ricochet becomes increasingly less valuable.
