Don't Blame The Technology, Blame The People

For years there have always been people who have pointed to studies showing that technology doesn't increase productivity. Unfortunately, those studies show aggregate data - that show that for every good implementation of technology, there may be several horrible ones. This opinion piece points out that it's wrong to blame the technology, but that IT professionals don't have their incentives aligned with the business principles of their companies. So, it's the "legacy IT workers" as opposed to the "legacy technology" that is slowing down productivity. The column has a few suggestions for better aligning an IT department with the business itself, and most of it has to do with better communication to the IT department.
