Simputer Not Doing So Well
from the not-ready-to-go-just-yet dept
Over the past couple of years there's been a lot of hype about the "Simputer", the very inexpensive, Linux-using, computer that was going to be develped for the poor in places like India. Just a few months ago, in fact, we posted an article saying that the Simputers were ready to go. Seems like it was more of a vaporware announcement, though. The two companies who licensed the Simputer design can't raise the necessary capital, make the proper manufacturing agreements, or sign up big enough customers to get the things made at a reasonable price.
