Yahoo Stops Taking Casino Ads

from the amazing dept

A friend of mine pointed out to me a few weeks ago that just about every pop up ad on Yahoo these days was from a casino. I'll admit there have been a few Pepsi pop ups as well, but overall it seems true. It fits with Yahoo's desperate push for more instrusive ads as a way to make money. However, Yahoo has suddenly decided to back away from accepting ads from casinos. I'm really surprised by this, actually. I wonder if Yahoo's surprising "profit" from last quarter will take a hit without those casino ads.

As a proud owner of Popup-Stopper I can't say I've been bombarded with pop-up ads, however, the decision to drop casino ads seems to be hasty. I like Yahoo's service, and would like for them to keep it free, and it seems that casinos and X10 are the only ones investing in this dry advertising climate. I don't mind the banners if they continue their free services.
