Email Ads Don't Work

from the well,duh dept

I don't think this comes as much of a surprise to anyone (except perhaps advertisers), but very very few people click on emailed advertising links. While they may have done so a little while back when it was a novelty, now they simply don't click. Of course, I think the biggest reason for this is that just about any commercial email these days is considered spam and gets very quickly dumped into the trash. If advertisers could actually target the ads like they promised years ago, and perhaps not send so many, maybe they would work better. If I received a single, targeted commercial email a month with things that were interesting to me, then I'd be more interested in what it has to say. But, if they start sending useless emails everyday, I'm very quickly going to learn to ignore them. Of course, this isn't rocket science, but advertisers don't seem to understand this.
