Web Filtering Company Links To Porn Sites
from the oh-come-on dept
In a silly show of marketing insanity, a maker of web filtering software is linking, from their site, to various hardcore porn sites which their competitors' products don't block. It's clearly a publicity stunt. Their competitors, however, are (smartly) ignoring it. Though, a critic of all filtering products points out that if anyone else created a page linking to the same exact porn sites, all of the filtering companies would rush to block it. Of course, if I were running a filtering company, I might be tempted to link to all the sites my competitors blocked as porn, but which weren't at all pornographic (such as breast cancer information sites). But, of course, no one would do that, because the filtering industry still doesn't want people to realize that their filters don't work very well (in either blocking pornographic sites or in not blocking non-pornographic sites).
