IBM Launching Grid Computing Bid

IBM is finally launching their grid computing effort which is their attempt at pricing computing power like a utility company prices their services. Soon companies may have to "check the meter" to see how much their computing costs. It's an interesting idea, and I'm still not sure if it'll catch on. Tellingly, they're launching the service without a single customer named - which is not at all standard. Most announcements of this nature come along with at least one or two "marquee" named customers to help tout the service. I'm surprised that IBM would launch it without any customers. My guess is that the first few attempts at this model will struggle for a while until it starts catching on in some niche areas. Then maybe it will begin to get some recognition as a reasonable way of buying computing power.
