Yet Another Attempt At Downloadable Music

from the try-try-again dept

Some folks in Australia are working on a downloadable music system that they say will let people download music for free while still paying artists' royalties. How could such a system possibly exist? Advertisers! Right. In other words, here's an idea that's going nowhere. As far as I can tell, it's a Napster wannabe that includes a system to check how many times you play a song (it doesn't track songs you burn to a CD or, I imagine, songs you play via software other than this QTraxMax stuff), and then charges these magic "advertisers" for the number of times you listen to a song - and gives the money to the artists. Where the advertisers come from seems to still be up in the air.
