The Anti-Virus Companies That Cried Wolf
from the not-working-any-more dept
I very rarely post any sort of articles about viruses or virus warnings because I believe most of them are being severely overhyped by the anti-virus industry in relation to the actual threat. The mass media, though, certainly likes to pick up on various virus warnings and hype them to ridiculous levels - and yet most people have never received any of these "scary" viruses. Some people are realizing that the anti-virus industry may have done itself a disservice in hyping so many new viruses week after week (such as last week's hype about a virus that could be embedded into images - even though there was no such virus out there threatening anyone) that most people ignore the warnings and don't upgrade (or even have) anti-virus software.
