Newspaper Execs Looking At That Wireless Web

from the money,-we-need-money dept

Newspaper execs are suddenly very excited about the whole wireless web thing. It has finally occurred to them that the wireless web presents them with the opportunity to send timely news alerts that (tada!) they think they can charge money for. Of course, I think they're overestimating (1) how desperate your ordinary user is for news alerts and (2) more importantly, how much people are willing to pay for such things. While it's true that there are certainly some people willing to spend money on alerts, most people will find that the info newspapers try to sell them will be too general and too quickly available for free to ever make them valuable enough to make people spend very much.
