What's Illegal About JumpTV?
from the that's-what-they-want-to-know dept
JumpTV has made a lot of news in the past for taking television programming and putting it up on the internet in Canada. They even worked out some sort of system (who knows how well it works, of course) to make sure that visitors were coming from Canada. They point out that, according to Canadian law, what they're doing is completely legal. Canada has a compulsory licensing law, that says companies can retransmit any television broadcast that went on the air. So, under those rules, JumpTV is perfectly legit. Yet, broadcasters and their various associations are doing everything possible to shut them down.
