The War Is Being Run Online

from the hope-that's-a-strong-firewall dept

The US Army may have built their own video game to attract recruits, but over in Afghanistan, the armed forces are all using web technology to manage the fight. Apparently, they're keeping maps, troop movement, and other vital information online, so that everyone is on the same page. They're even using an online chat system to communicate. They claim that the system is very secure, and they're monitoring every computer that tries to access the site. They also mention that they have real maps on hand because if a bullet hits a computer, it becomes a "paperweight", but if a bullet hits a map, it's still a map.
