Profiting From Gripes

News.com has an interesting interview with Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert. He talks about many things including his recent partnership with Google. But what was most interesting was his take on the dot-com period. He mentions that his humor is focused on expressing cubicle dwellers' gripes with bosses and management. The dot-com period was slow for him because people blamed themselves for not getting rich, not their managment. If they weren't making money it was because they weren't taking enough risk. This is one example of the sense of individual empowerment people had during this period and one of the more positive outcomes of the dot-com period. Once you've tasted freedom it's hard to go back.
