Overlooked Wireless Trends
from the you-mean-there's-more-to-it-than-that? dept
Three wireless trends seemed to have gotten lost in the wireless hype machine. New devices that can play music, video and browse the net are going to need additional storage capacity. Look for microdrives to proliferate. Global roaming is already a known trend and has to some extent driven carrier consolidation on an international scale. SIM cards, like those used in GSM phones to store account info, will spread beyond just GSM phones to CDMA based devices (about time) and make switching phones and roaming even easier. And, finally, battery life will improve once battery makers figure out how to make fuel cells safer.
