Robot Companions For The Elderly
from the Robots-Are-Our-Friends dept
In addition to the story that Tamagotchi-like devices might help the elderly remember to take their medicine, here's a report that robotic pets can give "joy and relief" to nursing home clients. Not that I have anything against this technology, but this reminds me of the Hawthorne effect in productivity studies. It may not be the robotic pets at all, but merely the unwarranted attention given to the folks playing with the robots.
