How To Make A Good Warning Sign.. Last for 10,000 Years.
from the y10k-problems dept
Salon has an interesting arcticle about a project to create a warning sign that is supposed to last for 10,000 years. The idea is that we need to warn future generations (and maybe visitors?) from the nasty nuclear waste that we're storing in these facilities. The most amusing part to me was the fact that even though the nuclear waste will remain harmful for 100,000 years, it's EPA regulation to only have to "warn" for 10,000 years. I guess the 20,000 years in the future lobby isn't as strong as I thought.

Speaking as a lone geek, I for one found this story to be interesting, even if it is slightly off topic.
