eBay Scam As Retirement Plan

from the get-out-of-town dept

This looks like quite a scam. A guy who owned a figurine store sold figurines for a while on eBay. Then, at the end of last year, he put a ton of the figurines up on eBay for sale, but never planned to send them out. Instead, he took the money and disappeared. Now, suddenly his company filed for bankruptcy (and, not surprisingly, so did his wife's store down the street). Officials are still looking for him. Basically, this appears to be their "retirement" plan. They must have realized they weren't going to make enough money to retire the legitimate way. I wonder if this will be the modern form of burning down your store for the insurance.

  • Where did you get the 'retirement plan' info?

It sounds to me like the guy screwed everybody, including his wife. Bankruptcy protection will help shield her from any lawsuits that may come about as a result of his fraud.
It's entirely possible that since this happened, people assume that she was a part of it and have stopped doing business with her, which could result in the closing of her shop.
Although the whole thing sounds fishy, I don't see any evidence to indicate that she is a party to any crime and that there is any indication of a retirement plan of any kind.
It's speculation like this that can lead to the ruining of an innocent person's life.
Of course, if she is guilty, I'll be the first one to volunteer to hide the key after she's been locked up.
