Minnesota Trying To Pass Online Privacy Law

The state of Minnesota is trying to pass a privacy law that would require ISPs to get consumers' permissions before passing on their info to others. Seems simple enough, right? Well, ISPs certainly aren't happy about it. Companies like AOL and Yahoo (not surprising, considering their recent decision to "opt everyone in" to spam) are trying to prevent the law from passing. They say it will do undue harm to the industry - though, I don't exactly see how. What's so harmful about requiring the approval of your customers before you give away their private data?
