Have Stock Options Lost Their Appeal?

The San Jose Mercury News has a great article showing just how short sighted some people can be. While a few years ago people were willing to give up salary just to get more stock options, now people are saying they don't care at all about stock options. Both views are silly. Stock options are very useful in many cases and, with stock prices very low, now is a better time than ever for most people to get some stock options. It does help align the employees' interests with the shareholders. Of course, that doesn't mean that stock options are perfect (they have lots of problems) and occasionally, they can hurt a business more than help it. Also, with so many people becoming so cynical about the tech industry - many employees simply assume that any stock options are worthless, and thus it does little to align the interests of employees and shareholders.
