eBay Down All Day

Remember a few years ago when eBay just stopped working? Well, if you thought they had fixed up all those problems, you were wrong. It turns out that eBay spent most of Sunday not working at all. When this happened a few years ago, eBay took great pains to blame Sun for the mess. I wonder who they'll blame this time. Update: Apparently, not everything has been fixed. There have been more outages reported today.

Backups? We don't need no stinking backups

I'd heard that the total restore of their Oracle database just took a lot longer than they expected. "It only takes X hours to backup. Why did it take 3X hours to restore?"
