Rejection Lowers Your IQ

from the be-loved-by-everyone dept

This can't be good. It seems that a new study says that people who are "rejected" by others have their IQ drop by about 25%. That's pretty significant. Past studies have shown that people who were rejected are more aggressive and violent - so now we have dumber, more aggressive and violent people who are upset that they've been rejected. I'm not sure how much I buy the results of the study, though. It says that IQ dropped 25% immediately on the person being rejected. Isn't the whole point of IQ that it's supposed to stay fairly constant? Also, how long does the effect last? Is it permanent? That makes no sense. So, is it a momentary rage that takes over the brain and makes you dumb, angry, and violent until civilization kicks back in? All I know is that my IQ is low enough as is. Don't expect me to ask any women out for a date in a long time. It's just way too risky...

It's proably a confidence thing. People who are confident have more belief in their abilities. OK there's a flaw in my argument but I still think it's got some merit.

I'm starting to think life is just a confidence thing.

so here's a quote from that article in case you lack the will to click thru...

''There is absolutely no evidence that low self-esteem is particularly harmful,'' Emler says. ''It's not at all a cause of poor academic performance; people with low self-esteem seem to do just as well in life as people with high self-esteem. In fact, they may do better, because they often try harder.''

Of course, the whole concept of IQ is entirely flawed anyway so what;s the big deal?

I'm totally going to take part in "The International Reject Project." I'm ready to come out of Reject Denial.

This is very cool. This guy is hilarious and completely on!
