Supporting A Broadband Marshall Plan?

from the lobbying-in-the-trade-mags dept

The Red Herring has come up with a byline-less piece a national US policy pushing broadband access. I'm still torn about this. My problems with broadband providers have been well chronicled, but I'm not convinced that the government could do a better job of it. In fact, I'm a bit worried that they'll do a worse job. Just because a number of companies did poorly in creating broadband systems, does not mean that the industry is doomed. Demand is there. It is up to the market to figure out a cost effective way to meet the demand and offer broadband across the country.
