US Search Vendors Angry At FirstGov Search Results
from the search-again dept
It seems that the much hyped new US gov't information portal FirstGov will be using a Norwegian search engine, Fast Search & Transfer, instead of any number of American providers (such as Google or Inktomi). The American vendors are not happy. They've asked for an explanation, which the government says will be given eventually, though they did say something about scalability and the ability to search through documents other than HTML files. Of course, Google can do all that, and says they're much cheaper than Fast Search & Transfer.

firstgov a joke
That comes up with more info than most of the searches on the government sites themselves.
