Movie88 Shut Down

from the that-didn't-take-long dept

Well, this isn't a huge surprise, but the Taiwanese site Movie88 that let people stream movies for a $1/movie has been shut down. The folks behind Movie88 are pissed off. They had to expect something like this to happen. However, they say that they were never approached by any authorities or given any court documents - and, in effect, have been executed without a trial. While they probably were violating some laws, I do see their point about being shut off without giving any chance to defend themselves. This has happened before, though. It appears the movie industry has convinced ISPs that they have to shut down first, and ask questions later (and the law might back them up on this). Yet another reason why someone with some common sense needs to start looking at some of the laws we have on the books.
