People Will Buy Set Top Boxes
from the oh-really? dept
Yankee Group has determined that people would actually buy set top boxes for high end cable services. To me this seems really obvious. If the cable companies got their act together, they could offer a combine set top box, PVR/Tivo-like system, and random other services. However, it seems more likely that by the time they realize what's going on, the Microsofts, Tivos, Moxis, Sonys and (possibly?) Apples of the world will have already signed up a good number of consumers. While it would be nice to have a combined service offering, I'd much rather give my money to Tivo than to Comcast.
