Who's Winning The Game Wars

from the seems-obvious dept

MSNBC talks to people on all sides of the gaming industry to find out who's winning the console wars. It seems clear that Sony has a huge headstart and hasn't given up much ground. Microsoft's Xbox, though, has done quite well and has gained momentum. The loser, at this point, appears to be Nintendo, but some people think that they'll be able to do much better as things keep moving along. There are plenty of interesting quotes about the different strategies each company has taken, and how well they've worked out so far.

    No Subject Given

I still haven't picked one up, but thus far the only console I'd consider buying is the Gamecube, because of Pikmin and Super Smash Brothers. Thus far I haven't seen a single game on the others that is compelling enough for the $400 outlay. The ad for Blood Wake is kind of clever, but the graphics and gameplay depicted both seem weak. If you can't make a good 30 second trailer for a game (or a movie or new show, for that matter), the game itself must really suck.

    Screw 'em all

I bought a Dreamcast for $49, and NFL 2k1 for $10. Crazy Taxi is another $10. Who the hell needs a $400 PS2 or XBox?? The DC still dazzles with the best of them.
