Copy Protection May Be Illegal

from the well,-duh dept

Not that it will do anything, but it's nice to see that someone in the government has realized that there are people out here who have some rights. Rep. Rick Boucher has sent a letter to record industry execs pointing out that copy protection schemes may be illegal. They violate a 1992 law that lets consumers make copies of music for personal use. He's asking them for more information about how their copy protection works, though it's unclear what he'll do afterwards.
