What's With All The Apple Hype

No one ever said that Apple didn't know how to build up hype in the press. However, they usually don't do it like this. They usually deny anything new and then make some big "surprise" announcement. Occasionally they'll leak a little bit (like they did with the iPod announcement) but then they risk angering those who think the products don't live up to the hype. So why are they building up a ton of hype towards next week's launch of... well... something? No one is really sure. However, it's clear that the marketing folks behind the hype are enjoying the chance to make fun of all the Mac rumor sites that love to speculate on such things. Update: Okay, so I've been looking over the various speculation and rumors about this one going around and my favorite one (even if it's somewhat unlikely) is that Apple is announcing that they're buying Palm. They've talked about it in the past, and now they'd also be getting Be's assets included in the deal...

What does Jobs think he'd get?
Many of the palm employees are ex-Apple staff. They are Ex Apple staff because of his actions towards the newton.

Does Jobs REALLY think these talanted ppl will WANT to work for Jobs (and Apple) again? Does Jobs believe that he'll be able to keep the palm staffers?

If they wanted to start a rumor that might be shockingly plausible, they should have said Sony and Apple were going to merge... and speculate how apple's digital hub strategy was all part of the 'master plan'...

Why would apple want to be palm _now_? 1998 was a very long time ago...

My bet: apple announces LCD iMacs and/or iWalk PDA.....

Yeah, the Apple hype is pretty crazy this time, I think it's another "digital device" like the iPod, which was super-overhyped.

LCD iMacs and new G4's too, but I don't think this is what they are talking about.

Rikuo: about the Xbox One reveal - there were quite a few people watching the reveal live on their Xbox 360's, with their Kinect 1.0's attached...and everytime the Microsoft exec demonstrated a feature by saying "Xbox, TV" or whatever

the viewer's Kinect 1.0 would pick up the voice command and respond accordingly...by pausing or stopping the stream and going to the TV mode. I find that hilarious

I also find the concept of Kinect 2.0 hilarious. So if you've got a bunch of people on the couch watching a movie...don't move a muscle. Stare blankly. Don't move your arms at all or say anything, or the Kinect 2.0 will think you're giving it a command.

If you move your arm back to point to the liquor cabinet to tell the wife to pour you a shot of whiskey, the Xbox One will think you're swiping
