Autism Among Geeks
from the interesting-read dept
Okay, I saw this article getting passed around a lot yesterday, so I'm a little late in posting it, but I finally got around to reading it, and it's very interesting. It talks about the high rates of autism and Asperger's Syndrome among children of techies. There are a number of different theories discussed in the article as to why this is. As an aside, if you want to help families with autistic children and read some great stories at the same time, you should pick up Speaking With the Angel. I just finished reading it, and I recommend it highly. It's a collection of short stories (having nothing to do with autism) written by some of today's best authors, and edited by Nick Hornby (who also has a story in the book). Hornby's son is autistic and some of the proceeds from the book go to schools for autistic children.

No, but I dissect an oatmeal raisin cookies so I can eat the raisins after I suck the crumbs up through a straw.
It must be done!
