Stadium Names And Tech Companies Don't Mix

from the not-looking-good dept

Ouch. Forbes looks at a number of American stadiums, coliseums, and ballparks that are named after companies, who pay for the sponsoring rights. A number of those companies are in serious trouble. The latest, of course, being Enron Field, now that Enron is not likely to last much longer. 3Com has also told Candlestick they're giving the name back (which should make a lot of 49ers fans happy). Are there any companies that are doing well that have named stadiums?

    Safeco Field, Seattle Washington.

Safeco was trading at around 20 when they named the stadium, and are now at a bit over 30. [CHART]

Of course, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the Mariner's record season or not...

Don't know about companies doing well, but I have examples of two more that are not (Ottawa, Canada):

    The Corel Center
    Jetform Stadium

Molson Centre in Montreal - beer company, doing well.

Air Canada Centre in Toronto - airline, not so good.

GM Place in Vancouver - General Motors, no problem.
