The Little Engine That...

from the sounds-dangerous dept

We've had some articles recently about using fuel cells to replace batteries in laptops and cellphones, and here's an article about an engine the size of a dime that could be used to power laptops as well. The researchers working on it, say that if you take that engine, and then use the rest of the space normally associated with a laptop battery for fuel, you could create a system to power a laptop for 24 hours. Sounds good, but the idea of filling my computer up with fuel still sounds a bit... messy. Anyway, there are plenty of other problems with the system right now as well, and moving parts always seem a bit more prone to breaking down than any sort of solid state solution. However, they still expect some sort of commercial application to come out of this research.

Please just give us reflective TFT screens and cut power consumption by 40%! We do not require a lit, pretty screen for everything we do...
