The Importance Of Sync
from the sync-me-up dept
A good article by Simson Garfinkel about the importance of syncing data. He talks about how many originally envisioned the internet as a place where people could easily connect to a few centralized databases, but the reality is more about replication, multiple copies and syncing. He talks about well-known syncing systems such as CVS and Palm's HotSync. The point he makes is that not too many people think about how things sync, but it is extremely important to how the internet works, how to protect data, and how to collaborate on projects. An interesting read about a topic that not too many people think about.
