Technology To Help You Escape From Buildings

from the new-importance dept

Back in May we had an article about the "magic carpet" device that some firefighters were looking at using in fighting fires in tall buildings. Such devices are taking on new significance following September 11. Lots of people are trying to think of higher tech ways to rescue people from tall buildings in case of emergency. Beyond the flying platform they also talk about special emergency parachutes for people to leap out of buildings with (though, they point out this brings up other dangers). In the end, though, what's probably needed are better evacuation plans and practice. When's the last time you actually paid attention to a fire drill?
