The Patriotic Bid Bombers Of eBay
from the taking-matters-into-their-own-hands dept
Some eBay users are so pissed off at people trying to profit off the September 11 tragedy, that they've taken matters into their own hands. They're making ridiculously high fake bids on any of those items, which they have no intention of ever paying for. It's an interesting way of "fighting back", though probably not all that effective. Of course, some of the sellers are getting angry and saying the "bid bombers" are the equivalent of the terrorists. Isn't it amazing how anyone who disagrees with you can some be labeled as the "equivalent" of terrorists?

As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a
comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." There is a
tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is
over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost
whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's Law thus guarantees
the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups.

Re: wisdom from /usr/local/share/fortunes
Ugh.
Godwin's Law is so 1997. ;) Haven't you read the various corollaries and proofs that Godwin's Law doesn't work? There is, of course, the Godwin Corollary, that the longer any thread goes the higher likelihood of someone bringing up Godwin's Law.
Read this for more reasons why bringing up Godwin's Law is now a waste of time.
