Innovation Without Incubation

The same argument seems to be popping up again. Does the economic downturn mean more or less innovation? Here's an article from the Washington Post about how incubators and other startup-helping organizations have seen entrepreneurs virtually disappear. They also talk with a guy who has been working on an invention at night, rather than trying to start a company with it. It's just not worth it, in his opinion. It's only at the very end of the article that they point out that the downturn might create more innovation, by forcing true entrepreneurs to be more creative. That's the theory I still agree with. You get much better innovation when the "get rich quick" factor is thrown out.
