Where Are Your Civil Liberties Going?
from the possibly-away-from-here... dept
I've heard a lot of complaining from people (which, perhaps suggests the types of folks I spend time with) about how the real loss from the terrorist attacks are going to be our civil liberties. I see where they're all coming from, and it's definitely true that the Justice Department is suddenly trying to push through a bunch of legislation that they never would have gotten approved otherwise. However, for the most part, there has been a clear concern from many people within the Justice Department and elsewhere about making sure our civil liberties aren't eroded. I still think the current bill goes way too far in some places - but the civil libertarian crowd seems to be freaking out without looking at any of the details.
