Public Companies Dropping The .com's In Their Names

from the it's-about-time dept

While private companies started ditching the ".com" part of their name as soon as the bubble started deflating, it's a little more difficult for public companies to change their names. But, they're trying anyway. Plenty of companies are doing the simple things, like dropping the .com or .net. However, they're also getting rid of "e's" and anything that implies they are (or ever were) an internet company. So, Intranet Solutions is now Stellant, and Netpliance is now TippingPoint Technologies. Of course, it would be interesting to see how all these companies do pre- and post-name change. It would also be interesting to see if they think they're actually fooling anyone...
