Michael Dertouzos Dead At 64

from the very-sad-news dept

Very sad news from Boston. Michael Dertouzos, the director of MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science since 1974 and a huge contributor to making the web what it is today died on Monday at age 64. I've been a huge fan of his writings and ideas for a long time (and link to articles he's written frequently). I recently saw him interviewed, and he seemed so excited about all of the stuff he's been working on (mainly, Project Oxygen). It really is a terrible loss. I've heard from a few people who have known Dertouzos, and they say he wouldn't want people to be sad, so think happy thoughts about all that he has given us.
